Solutions Architect

Job Description:

The Solution Architect, a key role in Information Technology, is responsible for providing the architectural framework that project teams deliver within.

  • Work on multiple projects and provide the context through which IT solutions are properly defined and designed
  • Guides project teams in deploying appropriate solutions by participating in project definition and prioritization, validating requirements, determining solution alternatives, creating conceptual designs, and facilitating requirements traceability throughout the systems development lifecycle (SDLC)
  • Champion architecture principles, standards and processes, set forth the technology direction and then execute on that direction
  • You will be a tangible and measurable value to projects helping drive them to successful completion through promoting excellent analysis & design practices

Requirements:

  • Post-secondary education in a technology discipline
  • Partner with Project Teams to conduct conceptual research (define project; validate requirements; estimate budget; examine feasibility; recommend next steps).
  • Participate in RFP processes, providing package / technology acquisition expertise and input on vendor selection.
  • Research, develop and document solution alternatives, approaches and recommendations that address approved project scope and business requirements, follow the organizations Target State Architecture and Technology Roadmap, and leverage IT investments across the enterprise.
  • Work with Project Managers (PMs) to balance scope and quality with budget and schedule. Ensure teams understand the broader context and ramifications of decisions and approaches.
  • Engage other IT stakeholders (e.g. Data Stewards, Data Architects, Security Architects, Technology Planners, etc.) as required in order to ensure completeness of solution designs.
  • Conduct risk assessments (risk identification, risk analysis, mitigation strategy) to assist the business in selecting the most appropriate solution.
  • Create project specific deliverables such as solution alternatives and recommendations, end-to-end architectural blueprints, and conceptual diagrams.
  • Present to senior management to gain buy-in and acceptance of solution approaches, and to ensure decisions are made with the interest of the enterprise vision in mind.
  • Review and approve project designs (e.g. Infrastructure Designs, High Level Designs, and Detailed Designs), Test Definitions and Implementation Strategies, and stay involved throughout project life cycle to ensure projects deliver according to the approved designs.
  • Support the Build, Test, and Implementation phases of a project, as required.
